ABOUT THE ARTIST

I was born in north London, and after spending most of my childhood drawing and painting animals, moved to Folkestone. I studied at Maidstone College of Art. Home is now a village in between Folkestone and Canterbury in Kent, on top of the North Downs.

I have enjoyed the company of Siamese cats for over 25 years, and now share my life, lap and studio with Oliver, a Sealpoint Siamese, and Wispa, my tortie Devon Rex girl.

I have been exhibiting and selling my cat artwork at major UK Cat Shows for over 10 years and regularly have a stand at the National Cat Club Show, Olympia, and the Supreme, at the NEC Birmingham, where I have gained many overseas customers.

My regular Cat Show clientele include top UK breeders, exhibitors and Judges and cat clubs and societies - for whom I need to pay particular attention to ensure that I capture the required 'type' and 'look' of each breed. I find that studying the winning cats at shows is not only an essential, but a fun way of achieving this! However, do not despair if you only have a humble moggie, as I also include household pets in my repertoire.

My work includes handpainted trophies for the Somali Cat Club, the Egyptian Mau Cat Club, the Maidstone & Medway Cat Club, the Best in Show Trophy for the Rex Cat Club, Memorial trophies and 'Specials', and the Best in Show Trophies for the Oriental Cat Association. I have been commissioned to illustrate a cat book for Riverhaven Elderly Cat Welfare, have had a series of greetings cards published and have supplied artwork to German Ferret, Fancy Rat and Guinea Pig clubs. I also regularly supply the British Ragdoll Cat Club and Pug Dog Club with merchandise.

I work in watercolours, acrylics, pastels and oils, often using other media such as metallics, relief outliners, crystal stones and gold leaf, especially in my 'trademark' intricately-patterned backgrounds. Another speciality of mine is to set tiny crystal stones into my cats' eyes, so bringing them to life - "they follow you round the room" is a frequent comment! My cat-embellished furniture, boxes, mirrors and other 'one-off' items have proved to be very popular and make ideal and unusual gifts.
